Pope Francis To Visit Juarez

Pope Francis

Pope Francis will be making a five-day visit to Mexico in February.  The last day, Feb. 17, will be on the border with Texas.  He will be stopping in Juarez, across from El Paso.

San Antonio Archbishop Gustavo Garcia-Siller says he will be going to Juarez.

“We meet twice a year – the Bishops from Texas and Mexico – for four days each time just to deal with issues of immigration, security, health, poverty, violence. And so we are quite connected. And we hope to support as much as we can, Juarez in this great, great opportunity.”

Pope Francis will visit a prison and meet with business leaders and officials. He will hold mass at 4p.m. and then leave for the Vatican that evening.

“And then he will have a chance to come closer to the border at someplace there. But we don’t know if he will cross or if he will come to the bridge. I have been told they're in dialog to see if he can do something in that direction. But it has not been confirmed.”
