This may be Spurs country, but Wednesday night Chicago Cubs fans gathered in San Antonio were delirious as their team defeated the Cleveland Indians to become baseball’s newest World Series Champions.
At Wrigleyville in the Park North Shopping Center, Demitrious Tingas was giddy.
"It's the end of the world, of course, you know, we've been waiting so long for something like this. It's just magical."
Chicago native Howard Marnan, 83, reflected on what the end of the long-awaited championship says about his beloved home town.
"Well, it's the realization that Chicago has a team that can go 108 years and we still love 'em. It's the spirit of Chicago. We stick with our Cubs," Marnan said.
Sandy Levy pulled out her cell phone and recorded interviews with the celebrating fans that she provided to Texas Public Radio.
"I've been a Cubs fan my entire life and I just wish my grandmother was here too, because she was one great grandma who liked the Chicago Cubs," Levy said, adding, "I know she's up in Heaven and she's making it all happen."
The Cubs claimed their last world series pennant 108 years ago, the same year the first upright vacuum cleaner made its debut and Henry Ford began mass producing the Model T.
