'San Antonio Dance Umbrella' Plans For Rainy Weekend

A major event for a local dance organization is set for the weekend.  That organization is called the San Antonio Dance Umbrella.

"Our mission is just to make sure that dance remains a vital part of our community because it's reflective of our culture and our identity as human beings," says board member Brittany Lopez.

To keep it a vital part they've created an evening of dance called San Antonio Dances.

"We're just featuring all kinds of dance styles and all kinds of ages, at a high professional level," Lopez says.

Their Saturday night event features a wide smattering of dance styles.

"We have Folklorico groups coming. We have belly dance groups coming. We have a lot of contemporary and modern dance. We have some tap dance. We have some hip-hop. Yeah, it's a really eclectic show.  These are professional groups that are already here in San Antonio. We're just kinda trying to provide a platform so they can share their work," she shares.

Dance Felicia McBride is set to reveal a dance six months in the making.

"She has been choreographing a work specifically for this show since about January. So she's going to debut the completed version at San Antonio Dances on Saturday," Lopez says.

The event takes place on Saturday at 7:30PM at the St. Phillips Watson Fine Arts Center off Martin Luther King Drive.
