San Antonio District 5 City Council Forum: Shirley Gonzales

District 5 is San Antonio's smallest by physical size and 93 percent of residents are low income. Major priorities for the district include increased public safety and much-needed improvements to basic infrastructure.

San Antonio's local government saw a shakeup in the most recent municipal elections, but incumbent District 5 City Council representative Shirley Gonzales won again with overwhelming support, earning nearly 66 percent of the vote

First elected in 2013, Gonzales has spearheaded initiatives like Vision Zero for reducing road fatalities and increased police presence in District 5 neighborhoods.

In newly elected Mayor Ron Nirenberg's council, Gonzales chairs the newly developed Comprehensive Planning Committee, which replaces 3 working groups: Housing, Neighborhoods and Livability, and Transportation, Technology, and Utilities.

How will Gonzales use her experience as a veteran representative and new committee responsibilities to help her West Side district and move the city forward?

Guest: Shirley Gonzales, San Antonio City Council representative for District 5
