Now that NFL owners have voted to move the St. Louis Rams to Los Angeles, the Oakland Raiders owner is again looking for the best place to relocate his team.
San Antonio Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Richard Perez says the fact that Raiders’ owner Mark Davis withdrew the team’s application for the L.A. move is a good sign for San Antonio. He said he planned to start talking with Oakland again today.
“I think what has happened in Houston with the NFL owners meeting has indeed set San Antonio up in probably the best place we have been so far to be able to talk to Oakland in a very serious way,” Perez said. “We’ve had a great relationship with them to date and we don’t want to rush anything. We want to be thoughtful and smart as we move forward with this.”
The Raiders still could possibly move to Los Angeles. The NFL offered the team the first option to join the Rams in L.A.'s new stadium if the San Diego Chargers decline.
Perez seems optimistic about San Antonio's chances to attract the team. He believes the only missing piece of the puzzle is whether San Antonio can guarantee a new stadium – which is part of the deal wherever the Raiders choose to move.
