SATX Shows Off At SXSW

San Antonio shared the best in business, tech, marketing, branding, cuisine and arts over the weekend at Austin’s South By Southwest Festival. It’s the first time a coordinated effort has been made to showcase the Alamo City at the giant festival that now covers everything from music, film, and digital to education and environmental initiatives.

SATX at SXSW set up shop at “Casa San Antonio,” otherwise known as the Old School Bar and Grill on Trinity and 6th Street, where lines formed daily to hear a series of talks held on the second floor of the venue. [Read more from our friends at the Rivard Report.]

In the Convention Center, ambassadors like Adam Thomas of Choose San Antonio and Hetali Lodaya of VentureLab spread the word about San Antonio to festival goers on the trade show floor.

“What we’ve been able to tell them is that we have a great collaborative business and tech community in San Antonio that you don’t find in a lot of big metropolitan areas,” Thomas said. “People are [also] asking what we like to do in San Antonio, and everyone will have a different answer. We’ve been talking up the craft brewery scene, the Pearl, St. Mary’s… everything.”

Lodaya added that she spoke to many fellow Texans who only knew the city through relatives, or from past visits, and that it’s been exciting to reintroduce the city to people. “Plus,” she said, “we had some pretty great beer and some paletas from SA Pops. I think that is very San Antonio.”
