VIA Says Thanks By Offering Active-Duty Military Half-Price Fares

VIA Metropolitan

VIA Metropolitan Transit launched a new campaign today that offers active-duty military half-price fares.

The campaign, called “Active Duty, Act of Thanks,” is a new fare program for active-duty military offering half-price rateson regular bus service, Express Route service and several pass programs including the $7-day pass and a monthly pass.

“What that means is that you can board most of our services for 65 cents. You can get a monthly pass for half of $38, which is the normal price. Anywhere you want to ride, ride within the system is half fare,” said VIA CEO Jeffrey Arndt.

To ride for the reduced rate, active duty military personnel must be in uniform or carrying VIA’s special reduced fare ID card. To get the ID card military members can show proof of their active duty status at seven area VIA locations including the downtown information center.

“We are Military City USA San Antonio. And we thought it was appropriate as Military City USA that we as an act of thanks for those that are in active duty that we provide this kind of discount,” Arndt said.
