Severe Weather Impacts Travel In The Hill Country And North Texas

@FortWorthPD Twitter

Forecasters at the NOAA Weather Center in Central Texas warn highways today may ice over and cause problems for motorists traveling north.

Meteorologist Larry Hopper said drivers who have to travel to Austin should watch for updated temperatures and stay off the roads if temps fall below 32 degrees.

"We've been having road impacts in Williamson County north of Austin. They're definitely having greater travel impacts on I-35 area above Waco," Hopper said. "Waco is under a Winter Weather Advisory, but when you get to Hillsboro, that's when it changes to the more serious Winter Storm Warning, when you go up into the DFW area.  So, it's definitely not a good day to go up there on the interstate."

Hopper said travel northwest of San Antonio through the Hill Country also will be treacherous today. Bexar County is expected to get rain all day, but Hopper says icing conditions won't hit our area until later this evening.
