Should The Oakland Raiders Move To The Alamodome?

Nathan Cone

The San Antonio Chamber of Commerce is asking its members to weigh in with their feelings about having an NFL team in the Alamo City.

The City hopes an online survey will help stakeholders gauge interest in the potential relocation of the Oakland Raiders.

Ten-thousand survey invitations went out over the weekend to members listed in the Chamber’s database and another 50,000 reportedly went to people who have attended events at the Alamodome.

The cooperative survey between the City of San Antonio and the NFL is designed to see where local football fans live, other sports they enjoy, and what they think of the facility. Perhaps most importantly the survey seeks to discover where local football fans stand on buying tickets.

San Antonio Chamber President Richard Perez says the Raiders' front office is doing its due diligence before taking the next step toward moving the team here.

"And one of the key parts of that due diligence is to see an evaluation of the marketplace," he said. "That is San Antonio because ultimately the vast majority of people that go to those games are going to be from San Antonio and Bexar County.

"Anybody that's considering a major undertaking like moving a team, they want to make sure that the market will be interested in buying what they have, and that is going to see the Raiders play."

The survey is directed specifically to the respondents' interest in the Raiders moving here. Many of the questions ask whether they would buy boxes or suites, how much they would pay for season tickets or whether they would buy individual tickets.

Results are expected in November.
