Siclovia Takes Social Approach To Promoting March 30th Southside Event
It’s the event that closes down streets and invites San Antonians to come out and play, but there's change in the air. Previous Síclovía events have been held on Broadway, but this year they are moving to the Southside.
"The new route will be starting along St. Mary’s near Cesar Chavez, and then stretching down to Mission Concepción," said YMCA’s Director of Marketing Laura Waldrum. "The event is going to take place on Sunday, March 30.”
If you’re new to San Antonio, Waldrum described Síclovía this way:
“It’s all about closing down the streets to auto traffic so people can commune with their neighbors, walk up and down the streets, enjoy the beautiful parts of San Antonio," she said.
Streets we all know primarily from behind the wheel change dramatically.
"There’s definitely a festive vibe in the air," explained Waldrum. "There’s exercise events, and healthy food vending and lots of fun things for children.”
Their technique for promoting Síclovía’s location change is a clever one:
“We have spray painted some bikes the various colors of Síclovía, and we’re placing them in places around town that are frequented by bicyclists,” she said.
They’re also tapping into social media to get the word out.
“We’re hoping that people snap photos of the bicycles whenever they find them," Waldrum said, "And post them on Facebook and on Instagram using #movingtosouthtown."
If you need a little incentive, Waldrum offers up even more:
“We’re going to be doing a drawing at the end of this, and whenever you snap a photo and share it on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter, you will be eligible for some fun, bicycle-related prizes,” she said.
