A new investigationby ProPublica and NPR is showing that the opt-out Workers' Compensation structure adopted by Texas is being taken on the road, but the downsides for workers are far greater than first understood. The independent analysis by the two journalism outfits is the first of its kind.

As The Source has talked about before, Texas doesn't do much to take care of its workers. Last Summer, The Texas Tribune ran a fantastic series called "Hurting For Work," exploring the broken system of Texas' workers compensation program and the companies that opt-out of state programs and get independent ones.
