In the first segment:
According to a pew survey this year, 34 percent of American adults owned a tablet PC and 21 percent have read from an e-reader in the past year. Maintaining the momentum on this mobile trend is Bexar county, which will launch the first ever bookless library called Bibliotech on Sept. 14.
What will become of the bound book? The printed word? How are you consuming these media?
Ashley Eklof, Head Librarian for Bexar County Bibliotech joins us to talk about the new library and answers the question: What does a librarian of a library with no books really do?
Also joining us is Vivienne Roumani, director of the documentary, "Out of Print," which covers the rise of the digital book and the demise of what we think about when we think about publishing.
In the second segment:
Doomsayers abound, but despite the demise of some mainstream bookstores the trend for smaller bookstores, independent ones, and resellers have shown a spike in sales.
How does the business look from the other side of the counter, and how are book sellers dealing with the trend towards e-readers.
Joining us to talk about it are Kathy Doyle Thomas, executive vice president of Half Price Books, and Claudia Maceo, manager at the Twig Book Shop here in San Antonio.
