The Source: With Gov. Perry Back In Court, What Happens Next?

Travis County Jail

Former Governor Rick Perry's legal team was back in court on Wednesday hoping to get the final felony dismissed in his abuse of power case. An earlier countwas thrown out in July. Nothing was decided though in the case against Texas' longest serving Governor.

The case originated when then Governor Rick Perry threatened to veto funding for the state's public integrity unit located in the Travis County District Attorney's office unless Rosemary Lehmberg, the Travis County District Attorney, resigned.  Lehmberg pleaded guilty to drunk driving in 2013. When Lehmberg refused to resign, Gov. Perry vetoed the funding in June of that same year.

Many have called the indictment politically motivated. Regardless of the intent, it is understood that Perry's White House ambitions were stymied by the indictment.

Where are we and what happens next?
