The Source: Ken Burns' America Explored Through The Roosevelts

US Library of Congress

The Roosevelt clan is exploredin a new film series by documentary filmmaker Ken Burns.

"Theodore, Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt. There is no other family that has had more influence on other Americans than this family." - Ken Burns

The influential family's accolades were both political as well as humanitarian.

The two presidents among them held the highest office for 19 of the 20th century's first 45 years.

Theodore and Franklin's policies shaped the country for generations: whether it be in military prowess, economics, the role of government in our lives and the role of the United States in the world, their collective voices resounded.

Eleanor Roosevelt reshaped the role of the first lady. Active in progressive movements, she was outspoken on the topic of racial equality, she pushed for the U.S. to Join the United Nations and was its first chair of their Commission for Human Rights.

The series "The Roosevelts: An Intimate History" begins airing on KLRN Sunday, September 14th.
