The Source: Language And Humanity

The formation of language is arguably one of the most important in the evolution of humanity. Learning a language, and a second and a third language literally changes the size and structure of your brain.

How we talk flags the type of person we are trying to project, be in an authority, rival, or friend. Words, word choice, and syntax all flow and change exhibiting the multiplicity, flexibility and expansiveness of language.

Renowned Philosopher Charles Taylor has explored ways of being and ways of creating ourselves and society in past books. Now in "The Language Animal" he turns his sights to language and how it informs and creates our humanity.

Guest:

  • Charles Taylor, professor emeritus at McGill University. Author of 10 books including "The Language Animal: The Full Shape of the Human Linguistic Capacity"
