The Source: Is Political Polarization A Threat?

The country hasn't been this politically divided in recent history, according to a new report from the Pew Research Center. Growing distaste for opposing viewpoints and parties has led to a shrinking middle ground. Just how little the two groups have in common is punctuated time and again in the report.

When responses to 10 questions are scaled together to create a measure of ideological consistency, the median (middle) Republican is now more conservative than nearly all Democrats (94%), and the median Democrat is more liberal than 92% of Republicans. -Pew Research Center 2014

Guest:

  • Jocelyn Kiley, associate director of research at the Pew Research Center
