The Source: San Antonio's Small, But Significant Black Community
San Antonio’s population increased 20 percent in the years between 2000 and 2010. But the numbers of African-American residents has slightly decreased, making up only about 6 percent of the population. And yet, our city has the largest Martin Luther King Jr. march in the country.
What affects these numbers, and what are the issues facing the black community in a city where the numbers of African-Americans are so small? Is San Antonio really becoming a more diverse city?
Eileen Pace talks with some of our community’s most prominent leaders from the black community to get answers to some of those questions.
