The Source: SCOTUS DOMA Decision | The Pending Primary Care Crisis
In the first segment:
The Defense of Marriage Act has been struck down and over 71,000 same-sex couples are now eligible to receive their spouses benefits. Texas, like many states, has a constitutional ban on same-sex marriages. Rebecca Robertson Legal and Policy Director for the ACLU of Texas joins us about what is next for the state and Darrell Garcia Parsons joins us to talk about his own experiences traveling out of state to marry his partner.
What is next for the state of Texas, and what does the ruling mean to those couples married in other states but living here in Texas?
In the second segment:
The number of primary care doctors is already at crisis levels in some parts of Texas so when the Affordable Care Act is fully implemented, where who will care for the thousands of Texans with health insurance?
We talk to Leighton Ku, who authored a study that charts the shortages of doctors across Texas. Ku is a professor in the department of health policy at George Washington University where he is director of the Center for Health Policy Research. Also, Jose Camacho from the Texas Association for Community Health Centers joins us to talk about the experience in rural Texas.
