The Source: State Rep. Laura Thompson Speaks Out About Criminal Charges

State Representative Laura Thompson is dealing with criminal charges as she seeks to be re-elected. The Bexar County Independent is hoping to overcome the scandals and hang onto the seat she won three months ago by just 50 votes in a special election.

Last week Representative Thompson turned herself into police. She said she didn't know she had an outstanding warrant that came from an allegation of assault by her niece. Thompson says she is innocent of the charge, but she admits she is guilty of writing bad checks (over a decade ago).

Thompson said she has made good on all the bad checks and has learned her lesson. And her recent run-in with the law on the assault charge has given her some ideas for reforms at the legislature. Thompson, the Independent, is facing Democrat Barbara Gervin-Hawkins.
