The Source: Superpower Showdowns And Media Suppression In 'The Tunnels'

The year after the rise of the Berlin Wall, a group of West Germans risked everything to dig tunnels underneath it to free people trapped on the other side in East Berlin. Two major television networks heard about the secret projects, and planned to fund and film two separate tunnel escapes.

President John F. Kennedy, whose stance was, "A wall is better than a war," took unprecedented steps to kill these historic films, testing the limits of free press in an era of escalating nuclear tensions.

Guest: Greg Mitchell, author of "The Tunnels: Escapes Under the Berlin Wall and the Historic Films the JFK White House Tried to Kill"
