The Source: Voting Rights Act | Assisted-Living Meets Big Unregulated Business
In the first segment:
Attorney General, Eric Holder, weighed into the voting rights act fracas here in Texas, saying he will seek to ensure pre-clearance of voting maps takes place by enforcing other provisions of the Voting Rights Act. We speak with William Yeomans, 26 year veteran of the Justice Department who litigated several civil rights cases on what it means. Yeomans is now a Professor of Law at American University.
In the second segment:
Right now the 75+ demographic is growing by 400,000 says Granger Cobb, President and CEO of Emeritus Senior Living in a new PBS Frontline Special, and that demographic will be at 1,000,000 a year in 15 years. These senior living facilities, often marketed as apartment style living are loosely regulated and the staffs are often times ill-equipped to handle the number of residents with dementia and other elder-related illnesses. In "Life and Death in Assisted Living" Frontline and ProPublica take a hard look at this industry. A.C. Thompson, lead investigator on the project, joins the source to tell us what they found out.
