Symphony Of The Hills Sets Holiday Concert

Deborah Conner
Symphony of the Hills

A special concert is coming to the Texas Hill Country. It's called Peace on Earth: A Holiday Special. Here's Music Director Gene Dowdy.

"Thursday, Dec. 3, at 7:30 p.m. at the Kathleen Cailloux Theater, the Symphony of the Hills is going to offer our holiday special."

The program's filled with holiday music, both spiritual and secular.

"We're going to open the concert with The National Anthem, and then also go right into Handel's Messiah, with the Grand Symphony Chorus. That's going to be Act One," he said.  "We're going to come back after intermission; we're going to offer the European Anthem, as it's called.  Talk about a peaceful song--Ode To Joy, from Beethoven's Ninth Symphony.  We're even going to be offering one of the Trans Siberian Orchestra arrangements of the Christmas Eve Sarajevo 12/24. That is rocking fun!   We've got a wonderful Hanukkah piece called Hanukkah Light.  It's got wonderful Jewish and Hebrew Hymns and tunes kind of inter-mingled with some holiday favorites. A very clever piece.  And how can it be Christmas without White Christmas?"

Asked if there will be a wine reception before the concert, Dowdy replied "Oh, it wouldn't be the Symphony of the Hills without a little wine thing. I think that's at 6:30."
