The San Antonio Symphony has put together an interesting event for its weekend performances. It's the closing event of the Spring 2016 symphony season. Here's Symphony President David Gross talking about the event.
"We have the Beethoven Violin Concerto with our guest artist Augustin Hadelich. Fabulous violinist."
Hadelich is a Grammy Award winner.
"Yes, meteoric rise in his career. Still quite young but considered one of the finest violin soloist on the stage today."
Gross says if you like violin, you'll love the Beethoven Violin Concerto.
"Some people say Beethoven only had to write one violin concerto because he got it right the first time. It really is just a stunning work."
The program is divided in two, and the second half is Mahler, The Titan, which Gross described.
"Probably one of the most beautiful yet powerful works. Mahler always captures the sound and some of the folk music of Eastern Europe, combined with the power of an expanded brass section, percussion section. And really, an exciting finish to our season."
Friday night's close of season performance will also be offered for free on their huge monitor on the Plaza outside the Tobin Center.
"Yes, weather permitting. We will have a simulcast and we are going to have an event called Paint To Beethoven."
They'll provide the paint, the brushes, and the musical motivation for your artistry.
"Exactly. Yes. And we are also going to have half-priced tickets."
The performances are Friday and Saturday nights at the Tobin, with the Plaza simulcast and Paint To Beethoven event on Friday night only.
