The Youth Orchestras of San Antonio have an interesting performance scheduled for Sunday, and it’s got a heck of a name.
“YOSAPalooza is a concert with more than 400 musicians.”
Troy Peters is YOSA’s Music Director.
“All of the different levels of the YOSA experience, share in one concert at the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts.”
I also spoke to YOSA member Victoria Acuna.
“I play violin. I’m in the YOSA Philharmonic; I’m in my third year.”
When you think back on those three years with YOSA — do you have a favorite experience?
“The most memorable experience was back in summer, our Quebec tour, where I improvised with a musician in a Sugar Shack, where they make maple syrup.”
So that was you and one other musician?
“Yes.”
Not reading off a sheet?
“Nope — all coming from the heart.”
As to what they’re doing this Sunday, here is Peters.
“We’ve got brand new, exciting music from Mexico. We’ve got classical favorites — everything from Elgar to Beethoven to Dvorak. We’ve got music from [the movie] ‘Frozen.’ We’ve got Christmas music. It’s just all over the map, and that’s part of what we do — we try to present a wide variety of musical styles. And then at the very end of the night, all 400 plus will play together the ‘Ode to Joy’ from Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony.”
Here’s some bad news.
“The indoor tickets are actually sold out.”
And then, there’s the good.
“But, we are going to be video simulcasting the show on the River Walk Plaza.”
The whole thing can be seen for free live on the huge video screen just outside the Tobin.
“The weather is supposed to be beautiful on Sunday. So it’s going to be a great thing.”
