Trinity University Gets A Special Blend

Trinity University is unveiling its first-ever wine release, a custom blend that brings an extra benefit to the school.

Winemaker Adam Lee is a Trinity alumnus now living in California's Sonoma County. He’s back in San Antonio to market his wines from the Siduri Winery to vendors across Central Texas -- and to kick off the wine he made specifically for his alma mater.

Lee said the idea came from a conversation with Trinity’s President, Dennis Ahlburg.

"President Ahlberg is a big wine lover," Lee says. "He's from Australia. And he came out to visit our winery and we talked about the possibility of doing a wine just for Trinity. So I came up with a blend. He tasted it and liked it, so we've done a special wine just for Trinity University."

Lee said the wine is unique; it doesn't just have a Trinity University label slapped on the bottle.

"It's 85% red zinfandel, and there's about 15% Syrah to give it a little more backbone. It's from the Russian River Valley in Sonoma County. The Syrah actually comes from down in Monterey County," Lee explains.

Mary Kay Cooper is the university’s Director of Alumni Relations. She says the university often collaborates with former students in a variety of ways, including fundraisers. With this special wine, Trinity will receive $50 from each case sold.

"I think of it more as a way to keep alumni connected to the university and each other," Cooper says.

Trinity University North Coast Zinfandel will be unveiled for the San Antonio alumni chapter at the university Friday afternoon.
