Try Something Different This Holiday With 'Guys And Dolls' At The Playhouse
The Playhouse comes off of their production of "Les Miserables" to tackle an old standard: "Guys and Dolls," which has been done multiple times on Broadway, and of course, in Hollywood.
On Friday, December 6, The Playhouse mounts its production at the Russell Hill Rogers Theatre.
"It has such a solid cast," said Chris Berry, who plays Sky Masterson. Berry talked about how tough -- and fun -- it is to tackle a classic:
"People have expectations when they come to see the shows, so it’s kind of a challenge for the actor to meet those expectations, but then to make it your own, which is one of my favorite parts about acting," Berry said. "Taking these new characters but then putting your own spin on it."
"It doesn’t have to be anyone else’s 'Guys and Dolls.' It’s our 'Guys and Dolls,'" said Playhouse CEO Asia Ciaravino.
"The actors that we brought in to play all the leads, and the chorus, and the supporting roles, are phenomenal" she said. It’s not competing anything else in my mind, it’s giving a new experience."
If you find yourself with relatives this holiday season, suffering through tacky, seasonal TV specials, Ciaravino offers this:
"For this time of the year especially, I think it’s a great alternative to Christmas stuff, or holiday stuff. Because it’s just about joy. It’s just about fun," she said. "You know those people you don’t want to be at your house all the time? You need to bring them to 'Guys and Dolls.'"
