University Of Houston Suspends Fraternity For Alleged Hazing

HOUSTON — The University of Houston president suspended the university’s Sigma Chi fraternity chapter in the wake of fraternity allegations at the chapter.

In a statement Tuesday, university President Renu Khator said she was “shocked, dismayed and deeply disappointed” by the allegations. Khator also said the university had suspended five students accused of committing the acts, which were not detailed by the university.

However, Khator said that if further investigation showed the allegations to be true, the five “will be subject to immediate disciplinary action, up to and including expulsion.” University police have turned over their findings to the Harris County District Attorney's Office, which Khator said would determine if criminal charges will be filed.
