Unveiling of Terraced Seating at Lockwood Park to Coincide with Dignowity Hill Pushcart Derby
The Lockwood Park Lighter! Quicker! Cheaper! project repurposes unused sand volleyball courts to create terraced seating with flat ledge rock and grass seating areas. The terraces are wide enough to spread a blanket or to set up temporary seating for community events. Texas Public Radio presents the official unveiling of this winning design in the Lighter! Quicker! Cheaper! initiative in partnership with the City of San Antonio, the Project for Public Spaces and the AIA San Antonio.
The public presentation of the completed design is scheduled to coincide with the 8th Annual Dignowity Hill Pushcart Derby. Join us at Lockwood Park at 801 N. Olive Street to celebrate the winning design with the residents of the Dignowity Hill neighborhood on Saturday, October 27, from noon to 6 P.M.
The Lighter! Quicker! Cheaper! initiative invited San Antonio residents to submit proposals for local small-scale revitalization and construction projects designed to create or enhance public spaces. Five finalists were selected from more than 150 entries, and an online vote determined the winning project.
The 8th Annual Official Dignowity Hill Pushcart Derby invites participants to build and race pushcarts through the park. The races are the centerpiece of a neighborhood event designed to showcase public art and neighborhood goodwill. Previous entrants include schools, community centers and even a city council member. Admission to the event is free, and concessions will be available.
