Valentine's Day Concert At Cave Without A Name
Normally I’d suggest not setting your sights too low on how to celebrate Valentines Day with your significant other, but in this case setting them far below might just be the thing to do.
"We are presenting a musical review called Love, Sweet Love," said Allegro Stage Company Music Director Tom Masinter.
"Love, Sweet Love is a musical review presenting beautiful love songs of the 1960s," he said.
I asked Masinter where it was happening.
"In the Cave Without A Name in Boerne, Texas," Masinter said. "We will be performing in the Throne Room, which is 80 feet under the ground. The acoustics are phenomenal, they’re just out of this world."
"I hate to disagree with you," I said, "but it’s not out of this world. It’s deep into it."
“Yes, you’re correct about that,” he said.
The cave concert is Saturday night, February 15, and it’s important to note you have to take a 126 stairs to get down into the cave, and those same stairs to get back up. If getting that far down isn’t for you, the night before the same group is playing at the McNay Museum of Art.
"People will be able to enjoy the concert [and] their ticket also includes champagne, hors d'ouerves. And they also get a little anniversary keepsake, so something that they can take home with them," said Daniela Oliver, the McNay director of communications.
I noted to Masinter that these evenings really didn't sound like your standard Valentines Day fare.
“It’s very, very different," he said. "For people who want to look for something more than just going to a restaurant, this is perfect."
