A Week Of 'Asinine, Insensitive And Insane'

U.S. Sens. Ted Cruz and Bernie Sanders debated for 90 minutes on CNN on Wednesday about tax cut plans being touted by President Donald Trump and some Republican member of Congress.

Plus, the Ted Cruz-Bernie Sanders show on socialist and right-wing views, and the Bathroom Bill

Editor's note: Mike Ward, who appeared on this podcast, was a reporter for the Houston Chronicle whose reporting was called into question in August, 2018. Although the podcasts were primarily analysis of current events, in the interest of disclosure, we thought it wise to include this information.

The Houston Chronicle retracted eight reports and issued corrections in multiple others, saying they were based on fabricated information, after an outside investigation revealed 44 percent of people quoted in Ward’s stories did not appear to exist. Ward resigned earlier this year while the investigation was underway.

The President started it all, with some Trump-speak about how some former presidents didn't call the families of dead soldiers to express condolences. After he walked those comments back, Energy Secretary Perry, a veteran himself, called the public controversy over Trump's remarks as "asinine."

Add a CNN debate between U.S. Sens. Ted Cruz of Texas and Bernie Sanders and arguments over supposed corruption in the Texas House, part of a political drama show that involves the controversial bathroom bill.

That and more on this week's show, the lowdown on all the political entertainment in Austin and Washington -- and what it all means to average Texans.
