Ballet San Antonio has been taking their dancers out of the halls for public performances recently. I caught up with Ballet San Antonio's President Courtney Barker to find out where they’re headed next, which is downtown’s newly-renovated Travis Park.
“It looks incredible, they did a beautiful job,” she said about Travis Park.
I asked Barker where the dancing itself will take place.
“It’ll just be right there in front of the St. Anthony Hotel on Travis Street," she said. "We will have a big stage set up and lighting and music. The San Antonio food trucks will be out there, as well as cocktails and beverages hosted by the St. Anthony Hotel.”
The event takes place Friday and Saturday nights, April 4&5, starting at 7 p.m. each night. If you’re wondering whether you can afford this kind of indulgence, Barker clears that up.
“The actual performance is free,” she said.
Food trucks, beverages and cocktails are on a cash basis, but the ballet won’t cost a dime. Barker details the other aspects to the event.
“The actual park will open up at 5 p.m. and the food trucks and the St. Anthony will have their beverage bars set up starting at 5 p.m.,” Barker said.
I asked her what kind of music will they be dancing to.
“They’ll be doing a mix of recognizable classical music to contemporary music in the first half, and then in the second half there will be excerpts from the ballet 'Don Quixote,' " Barker said.
Barker said the entire company -- over 25 dancers -- will be participating in the event.
"With 'Don Quixote' it kind of brings out that Spanish flair, so that’s why we thought it would be perfect to do this out of doors and kind of bring a little San Antonio flavor to it,” she said.
