Weekend Happenings In San Antonio

The weekend’s  weather is going to be great to get out and do all kinds of activities. Here's a snapshot of a few things you might want to check out. First off, for young families, the MagikTheatre presents A Night in Old New Orleans.

“A little bit of fantasy, a little bit of science fiction and a whole lot of music.”

That's the Magik Theatre’s Beth Graham. The play’s origin is the very popular Magic Treehouse book series.

“One of the composers is Allen Toussaint, who was one of the composers of Ain’t Misbehavin', a Broadway show.”

The very musical production opens today (Friday, May 1) and runs through June 6th. Heading to the West Side, Esperanza Peace and Justice Center’s 6th annual Paseo Por El Westside event celebrates community with storytelling, music, education and film. Workshops on Loteria, medicinal plants and pan dulce, plus walking tours, are all highlighted parts of this free family event.

The San Antonio Symphony’s performances tonight and Saturday night feature a special guest.

“My name is Evelyn Glennie.”

Scottish solo percussionist Glennie is here to play a Grammy-winning percussion concerto with the symphony.

“I’m always looking for new sounds, new combinations of sounds.”

Her performance with the symphony is made even more fascinating by the fact that she is deaf.
