The Wheatley Heights Sports Complex opened up on San Antonio's East Side at the beginning of the year. Bexar County, the city and the Eastside Christian Action Group partnered to offer a place where teams can come play ball.
“It’s a wonderful amateur sports facility right in the heart of the East Side that provides a wonderful place for recreation for our youth,” said District 2 Councilwoman Ivy Taylor.
But right now leaders are trying to figure out how to reach leagues and others who might want to rent the space. An information sheet highlights operating costs of up to $750 per day during events due to water, electric and security fees.
Taylor says the complex can be rented for track meets, football and soccer games, as well as non-athletic related events.
“We have provided the contact information on how they can contact folks to lease the facility, as well as the schedule of fees, and also let folks know that there are a few free community days so we can all put our heads together to plan a big event out there on a day that it’s free,” said Taylor.
Free days are awarded to venues like the Wheatley Heights Sports Complex to use for community-wide events where rental fees are not needed.
