The Future of CNG Vehicles in San Antonio

December 12, 2008 · Fueling cars with compressed natural gas is not a new concept. The fuel is still cheaper and burns much cleaner than gasoline. Using it also reduces the nation’s dependence on foreign oil. Many cities across the country and in Texas back programs for consumers to purchase and operate natural gas vehicles, but San Antonio has yet to fully support the concept. Texas Public Radio’s Terry Gildea looks at what’s working in Austin and finds out why it’s not happening in the Alamo City – at least not yet. -more-

September 19, 2008 · Gonzales filmmaker Chris Eska's first feature, August Evening is now playing in San Antonio at the Bijou at Crossroads Theater. Eska's film follows an aging undocumented farm worker named Jaime and his young, widowed daughter-in-law, Lupe, as their lives are thrown into upheaval. Eska shot the film around Gonzales and San Antonio using a combination of trained actors and non-professionals. He discovered the film's star, Pedro Castañeda, installing wireless networks at a local non-profit. Nathan Cone talks to Castañeda and Eska about the film.

The Impact of War: Recovering from Combat Burns

June 11, 2008 · San Antonio health officials are launching a first-of-its-kind tracking study for diabetes.  The disease continues to claim lives in South Texas and researchers hope the information they gather here will help find a way to stop the spread of this potentially deadly condition. As Texas Public Radio’s David Martin Davies reports, this local study could become the model of the nation in dealing with this deadly and costly disease. Water Restrictions Possible Next Week
June 10, 2008 ·There has not been a significant amount of rainfall in the San Antonio during the past eight months. That along with more water being pumped out of the Edwards Aquifer could put the San Antonio area under Stage One water restrictions as declared by the Edwards Aquifer Authority. Stage One restrictions go into effect when the Edwards Aquifer reaches 650 feet above mean sea level. Here are links to the San Antonio Water System and Bexar Met who service the majority of residents and businesses in Bexar County to see what are the restrictions for Stage One and further stages if necessary. May 1, 2008 · Bexar County registered voters are being asked to extend the Visitors Tax, which is basically a tax charged when anyone rents a car or stays at a hotel/motel in Bexar County.  A tax, which elected officials will readily tell voters, is paid primarily by tourists and visitors.  There are four propositions which will provide funds to pay for improvements and construction of proposed projects.  Texas Public Radio's Ernie Villarreal reports on the lack of details in Propositions Three and Four which are raising concerns for some individuals.

April 4, 2008 · HemisFair '68 was seen as a big birthday party for San Antonio. The event coincided with 250th anniversary of the city's founding. Doctors say the San Antonio native suffered severe brain injuries and that chances of his survival are grim. March 13, 2008 · On March 15 downtown San Antonio will be transformed for a festival of lights called Luminaria: Arts Night in San Antonio. The celebration is free and begins Saturday afternoon and lasts through the night. The event is billed as a way for the city to showcase the accomplishments of local artists.
