Various Artists – "Stax Records 50th Anniversary Celebration"
If Motown was "Hitsville, USA," then Stax Records can lay claim to "Soulsville, USA." Started by a white country fiddler, the record label was integrated in the studio, and by the 1970s, at the top levels of management and ownership. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the record label that introduced the world to artists like Booker T. & the MGs, Sam & Dave, Otis Redding, and Isaac Hayes, Concord Records and Stax have compiled a two-disc set of the best tracks from the house of Stax.
The music herein spans the golden years of the Memphis-based Stax soul sound, from 1961 to 1974. Among the gems in this collection are "Green Onions," "Knock On Wood," "Respect," "Born Under a Bad Sign," and the "Theme from Shaft." Various Artists – "Putumayo Presents: World Hits"
