Army North Part Of Suicide Prevention Month Efforts

Soldiers returning from multiple deployments have a greater need for assistance when they get back to their families and home life.  

Maj. Gen. Adolph McQueen, deputy commanding general of Army North, is meeting with troops at headquarters in San Antonio Thursday as part of the Army's Suicide Prevention Month.

Army North officials in San Antonio are having ongoing conversations with returning soldiers as part of the Army-wide suicide awareness effort this week.

Army North Gets New Commander, Moves Toward North American Military Collaboration

As of Wednesday afternoon, Army North has a new commander. Lt. Gen. Perry Wiggins took the helm at 5th Army Headquarters at Fort Sam Houston, immediately after receiving his promotion.

The lengthy list of dignitaries included Gen. Edward Rice of the Air Education and Training Command, along with commanders from numerous major command centers around the country, and commanders from Sedena, the Mexican Army.

5th Army Returns To San Antonio After Vibrant Response Catastrophic Event Training

From evacuation helicopters taking victims to the nearest hospital to dog rescues and on-site decontamination procedures, the training has to be as real as possible.

More than 5,700 people participated in this year's Vibrant Response near Indiana's Camp Atterbury, the nation's largest exercise in mass-casualty response to catastrophic events on U.S. soil.

This exercise is one of many conducted around the country each year led by the Fort Sam 5th Army Command.

Fort Sam Virtually Shuts Down To Complete Sexual Assault/Harassment Training

Military orders from top brass in Washington D.C. are being carried out for sexual harassment and assault training at Joint Base San Antonio.

Local military officials say the Army’s Sexual Harassment and Assault Response Program (SHARP)  was ordered by General Ray Odiernio, chief of staff of the U.S. Army, around the time the Senate Armed Services Committee held their heated, marathon hearing on sexual assault in June.

More than 600 Fort Sam Houston personnel, both military and civilian, turned out for the SHARP training. Other branches conducted their own programs.
