The San Antonio Choral Society’s 49th performing season starts October 15, so Music Director Jennifer Seighman dropped by the studio with a preview.
“We will have four major concerts," she said. "The first one is 'The Hills Are Alive: Music of Bavaria and Austria' and this is in anticipation of our choir tour to Bavaria and Austria, and also to help us get started celebrating Octoberfest this month."
Seighman said the "Hills Are Alive" performance will contain selections from "The Sound of Music."
"Beyond the Horizon" is the season finale for the San Antonio Choral Society. The concert this Sunday afternoon at 3pm will be led by Jennifer Seighman.
Seighman will lead Chichester Psalms by Leonard Bernstein, as well as music by living composers like John Corigliano. "I've based the program on poetry," Jennifer states. "What lies behind us, what lies before us, what lies beyond us - are tiny matters compared to what is within us. It comes from a Ralph Waldo Emerson quote."
It is the splendor of multiple choirs & brass in this 400th anniversary celebration of Venetian composer Giovanni Gabrieli (d.1612). Special guest artists will include the San Antonio Brass, strings, and the choirs from First Presbyterian Church and St. Paul's Episcopal Church to culminate in a performance of nearly 150 musicians.
