adoption

ACLU of Texas

Texas has taken a hard line against immigrants who are in the state illegally. Under the direction of Governor Greg Abbott, the state sued the Obama administration over the president’s executive action to overhaul immigration policy so that it would shield some from deportation and allow them to work legally in the nation. The case was heard earlier in April by the U.S. Supreme Court.

From Texas Standard:

Most adoptions are about children finding their "forever homes," or their permanent families. Other adoption proceedings are for parents who want to make sure their kid remains a part of their family, as is the case for many same-sex parents.

Update: The Heart Gallery of Central Texas is on display at Austin City Hall through tomorrow.

Original story (Aug. 29): Think about adoption, and you’re probably thinking about babies.

That's one of the reasons why older children struggle to get adopted. Two other groups that have a hard time finding their "forever homes" are children with disabilities and sibling groups – about half of the children in foster care who are waiting to be adopted are groups of siblings.
