Alamo Stadium Ready To Reopen To Public, Just In Time For Football

District officials say the newly renovated Alamo Stadium is ready to host its first game.

Alamo Stadium has been under construction for over a year and a half and is ready to be revealed to the public.

From the end zones to newly added press box, Alamo Stadium has been under a near complete redesign. There are new bathrooms, locker rooms, and concession stands.

“We have leveled the football field to make it more versatile -- that is, making it more accommodating for soccer -- and of course an all-weather track as well,” SAISD superintendent Sylvester Perez said. “We’re very proud of our video scoreboard.”

SAISD's Alamo Stadium Getting Facelift

Ten athletes from each of the district's middle and high schools break-through the banner at the start of the ceremony.

Two years after SAISD voters approved a $500,000 bond package, renovations on the districts historic Alamo Stadium have finally broken ground.

Ten athletes from each of the district's middle and high schools ceremoniously broke through a banner in pep rally fashion as the keys to Alamo Stadium were handed off to contractors to begin the 18-month reconstruction. Alamo Stadium is a piece of history for the entire city.

The $35 million in renovations is the largest since the stadium was built in 1939 using rocks from the quarry that is now the zoo.
