Say Sí Students Learn to Illustrate Movement for Fotoseptiembre

The staff at Say Sí plans for a certain theme that can be woven into each show throughout the year. From there, students produce art pieces for a variety of events; Fotoseptiembre is one of those.

"Ok, so the theme of Fotoseptiembre; the theme was decided ahead of time during the project planning, and the theme was 'Stillness in Motion,'" said Nicole Amri, program and outreach coordinator for Say Sí.

Tuesday night San Antonio Mayor Julián Castro stepped into the national spotlight by delivering the keynote address at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina. The prime time spot at the convention has turned Castro into a national political figure and has spurred talk that he’ll soon seek a statewide elected office. However, Texas has not elected a democrat to a statewide office since 1997.

Fela Kuti, On Film and In Concert

Fela Kuti is considered the founder of the musical style known as Afropop, which employs a very large band with a jazzy horn section and African rhythms. Kuti is not only a composer, but multi-instrumentalist, human rights advocate and political agitator. 

The Fela Kuti Double Feature Documentary and Concert DVD is hypnotic watching, beginning with the chain smoking Fela introducing himself.
