New Signs Help San Antonio B-Cyclists Get Around Town

Way-showing signage has gone up around downtown directing B-cyclists to the nearest station and pointing the way to area attractions

Downtowners have been noticing some new signage pointing out major attractions in the Center City. Dozens of new signs have gone up that also help cyclists locate the nearest B-cycle station.

A lot has been going on in the first half of the "Decade of Downtown": There is Center City Development, a new Travis Park, River North, and all of the development efforts together creating a fresh crop of restaurants, bars and coffee shops and a need to get around.

Is This The End Of The Driving Boom In Texas?

The TPIRG study shows programs like San Antonio's B-Cycle are having an impact on total driving miles in Texas.

A new report shows new technologies are helping people reduce the number of miles they drive, which may be a hard sell to those who have to sit in traffic on IH-35 or Hwy. 281 every day.

The largest decrease in driving miles was found to be among Millennials -- the new driving generation that will dominate driving trends in the future.

Sara Smith, program director for the Texas Public Interest Research Group, said they compiled statistics from the Federal Highway Administration and found a reduction in miles traveled over the last decade.

Mayor Castro Calls For A Fit And Green Fiesta 2013

Mayor Castro is encouraging Fiesta-goers to be physically active and environmentally responsible for this years celebration.

The countdown is on for Fiesta 2013 and Mayor Julián Castro is asking Fiesta-goers be fit and green during the 11-day celebration. 

April 18 through April 28 San Antonians will be occupied with traditional parades and parties. Castro said Fiesta is the time for fun and frivolity, but it can be done while keeping Fiesta green.

"We’re here today to invite folks out, of course, to Fiesta, but also to challenge San Antonians to participate in this fit and green Fiesta in the year 2013," Castro said.

B-Cycle Bike Share Expands East, North Up To The Witte

As B-cycle nears its two year anniversary in San Antonio, five new stations north and east of downtown have been installed.

The new B-cycle stations are at the Zoo, the Witte Museum, Tri-point YMCA, the South St. Mary’s Acemart and Sunset Station. The station at the Witte is now the farthest northern location.  

There are now 35 stations and B-Cycle executive director Cindy Snell said they hope to have 50 stations by the end of this year.

B-Cycle Continues Expansion On South Side To Missions San Jose And Concepción

San Antonio’s bike share program is expanding into the South Side with several new B-cycle kiosks around the Missions.

Cyclists rode to Mission San Jose to illustrate the new availability of B-cycle just south of downtown; six new stations have been added at some of San Antonio’s Mission’s along the Mission Reach.
