Canadian Dance Troupe Stepcrew Brings International Show To Boerne

Dance troupe Stepcrew is coming to Boerne next week. You may remember the Riverdance phenomenon in the mid 1990s. A young Canadian man saw that and thought, "Wait! We’re already doing that!"

“When we grew up I didn’t even know Irish dancing existed," said Nathan Pilatzke, a dancer and founding member of Stepcrew. "We were just learning this dance which was from our area.”

"God of Carnage" cast.
Allen Rudolph

The Boerne Community Theatre (BCT) is mounting a production of "God of Carnage," a Tony Award-winning play that’s quite a ways out of the Neil Simon romantic comedy mold.

"When I read the script I knew that I needed to direct this show," said BCT Executive/Artistic Director Patty Loftis.

I asked her about BCT's Theater on the Edge program: "You said that 'God of Carnage' was a part of your Theater on the Edge thing -- what does that mean?"

Artist Chris Demarest
Jack Morgan TPR Arts

Your local library may have revolving displays of period museum collections or perhaps paintings hanging on the walls of their public gallery, but they probably don’t have this.

Chris Demarest is the painter who created about 30 paintings of World War II servicemen and women that are on display at the Patrick Heath Public Library in Boerne. You may still be asking: what’s so different about that?

"I bring my easel wherever I go, so I work in public" Demarest explained.

When it comes to Big Tex, all secrets can now be revealed.

R. Eddy Snell and Karen L. Miller have had to keep a big secret for the past year – perhaps the biggest secret in the state of Texas. The State Fair of Texas hired them and their group, SRO Associates, to create the new Big Tex.

SRO is a production company near San Antonio. The company has built sets and created entertainment for several theme parks across the country, including SeaWorld, Six Flags and Hershey Park. But SRO got a lot of help from San Antonio-based Texas Scenic Company to build his interior steel structure, as well as program his movements.

Battleground Boerne: Democrats Enlist Castro To Help Break Republican Stronghold

Jim McGrody, president of the Kendall County Democratic Club, introduces Congressman Joaquín Castro.
Jack Morgan

State Democrats are on the move to Turn Texas Blue, a campaign to turn around the last three decades of Republican domination.

The effort went local last week when Kendall County Democrats asked for input from Congressman Joaquín Castro.
