Congressman Charlie Gonzalez is ending a 14-year career in the U.S. House, and he's going out as things are heating up -- the august body is still dealing with the political crisis known as the fiscal cliff. Gonzalez explains why he’s leaving Congress and what his successor, Joaquín Castro, needs to know to deal with the pressures of Washington D.C.

For the first time in 50 years there wasn’t a Gonzalez listed on the ballot for Congressional District 20 of Texas.

Gonzalez is done with politics, but he isn’t done with being a congressman – not until his replacement, Democrat Joaquín Castro, is sworn in as his replacement in district 20.

Gonzalez has a prediction about the looming  sequestration, or fiscal cliff, that could force automatic austere spending cuts to the federal budget: “Fiscal Cliff - It’s not going to happen.”

Congressman Charlie Gonzalez is reminding voters and election workers that picture IDs are not required to cast a ballot in Texas. He spoke to Texas Secretary of State Hope Andrade about reinforcing the message that Texas has no Voter ID law. 

Congressman Gonzalez was upset last week to read that a Dallas Morning News columnist was asked for a driver’s license when he presented a utility bill at the polling station.
