YOSA and CCSA collaborate for BrahmsFest

Monday night, February 11, two outstanding youth groups combine on the stage of Trinity University's Laurie Auditorium to celebrate the music of Johannes Brahms. The official Brahms Festival event will feature new orchestrations and old favorites.

Marguerite McCormick and Troy Peters will conduct the Children's Chorus of San Antonio and the Youth Orchestras of San Antonio Philharmonic in "Brahms ReImagined."

There are three chances to go to Holiday Pops and hear seasonal favorites with Akiko Fujimoto and the San Antonio Symphony featuring guest vocalists Cristal Smith, Eric Schmidt, and the Children's Chorus of San Antonio this weekend.

The first two concerts are at the Majestic Theatre and include holiday classics by Leroy Anderson, Nicolai Rimsky-Korsakov, and John Rutter.

It's a new location for Winter Magic with the Children's Chorus of San Antonio! "Our numbers have grown this year which is absolutely wonderful, but we needed a larger space," says Marguerite McCormick.

"We combine the choirs in a couple of different ways - sometimes two or three of the training choirs will sing together, sometimes the advanced choirs will sing together, and then we do feature all seven choirs; all 250 plus children in this concert!"

It's an evening of seasonal music by candlelight presented by the "elite choirs": the Chamber Choir and Youth Chorale. This year CCSA brightens Laurel Heights United Methodist Church with their music!

"This is always a very special concert because we can do more with programming, we can feature more groups within the choruses because these youngsters are the elite, the advanced groups," says Marguerite.

Project: Sing! is the Children's Chorus of San Antonio's community outreach program serving elementary children in grades 3 through 6 in the Harlandale, San Antonio and Edgewood school districts and area private schools. Participating students who do not have the opportunity or access to CCSA’s core programs join together weekly in their own neighborhood for one or two condensed semesters of singing, learning, and sharing taught by their staff.
