Char Miller's new book "On the Edge: Water, Immigration and Politics in the Southwest."

In the first segment:

Author and former professor of urban studies at Trinity University Char Miller talks about his newest book "On the Edge: Water, Immigration and Politics in the Southwest."

The noted essayist compiles many of his pieces into this collection to discuss the top issues affecting his former home. Miller is now the W.M. Keck professor of environmental analysis at Pomona College

Miller will be attending the Texas Book Festival this weekend downtown.

San Antonio Metro Health District's report details amputations as a result of Diabetes

In The First Segment:

The health of San Antonio is gauged each year by the San Antonio Metro Health District's annual report. Bexar County and San Antonio have never been beacons of health, but the report details the specific issues that we are dealing with locally.  

From unprecedented levels of syphilis infections to amputations from diabetes at a rate four times the national average, the city still has major health problems.

Pedal-Powered Siclovia Draws Record Attendance

On Sunday San Antonio’s Síclovía attracted thousands of people, who came out to play in the open street. The YMCA, who hosts the biannual event, said 45,000 people came out last October and this year about 65,000 people participated.

Síclovía has become a staple for the Spring and Fall seasons as Broadway Street is closed to traffic and cyclists, runners, roller bladers, and skate boarders make their way down the road without fear of vehicle traffic.

The Source: Measuring The Economic Impact Of The Eagle Ford Shale

In The First Segment:

Thomas Tunstall is the director of the UTSA Center for Community & Business Research and the lead researcher and economist on a recent study about the economic impact of the Eagle Ford Shale.

The study found that the total economic impact of the boom is $46 billion dollars and 86,000 jobs.

The report also found that the Eagle Ford Shale now ranks as the largest single oil and gas development in the world based on capital expenditures.
