The mayor’s race has gotten all the attention, but San Antonio voters will also decide on a representative for City Council District 7 in the June 13 run-off election.

Incumbent Council Member Cris Medina faces challenger Mari Aguirre-Rodriguez, who temporarily held Medina’s seat last year when he took a leave of absence.

When an email went out to members of the media alleging wrongdoing by San Antonio City Councilman Cris Medina, the District 7 representative filed charges against the email sender for impersonating him.

After a review by detectives, it appears the anonymous writer did not break the law.

A lengthy and highly charged email went out to members of the media Thursday, alleging misconduct, illegal use of campaign funds and city office time, and the suspicious firing of several staffers from Councilman Cris Medina's office.

Medina told TPR during a phone conversation following the release of the email that he's looking into pressing criminal charges against the still-unknown writer of that email for impersonating him because it appeared to originate from the councilman himself.

There are strong opinions in the debate over a proposed plastic bag ban. The idea has bounced back and forth between committee meetings so far, and according to staff members it will go before the full San Antonio City Council this month.

In the meantime, the 10 council members and mayor have received plenty of responses from the public. Their offices report they've received about 1,400 emails and letters, and an overwhelming number have been favorable toward a ban. Only five, they say, were opposed.
