Known for his voice of reason and scrutiny of topics that come across the dais on city council days, District 8 Councilman Reed Williams will not be seeking his third term. This has thrown the door wide open to a list of people ready to fill the seat.

Rolando Briones, an engineer, Ron Nirenberg, associate general manager of Trinity’s jazz station KRTU, and Michael Kueber, a retired attorney, are all ready to be the next city councilman.

Bexar County Judge Nelson has placed his support behind a bill in the legislature that would consolidate the governments of San Antonio and Bexar County into a single entity.

A pair of bills filed by state Rep. Lyle Larson would create a single government combining San Antonio’s City Council with the Bexar County Commissioner’s Court.

Standing on a stage inside Ballroom A of the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center downtown, San Antonio Mayor Julián Castro began his annual State of the City address by joking that people should pick up a copy of Vogue.

The mayor and his brother, Congressman Joaquín Castro, are featured in the March edition of the trendy fashion magazine.

The deadline for candidates to file for the San Antonio City Council elections is Friday. So far,  District 4 is the only office with no candidates listed.

The incumbent, Rey Saldaña, said that’ll change Thursday when he runs for the office, quite literally.

The Stanford graduate and former Stanford Cardinal baseball player will run seven and a half miles, do nearly 100 push-ups, 170 squats and finish with 10 burpees – a sort of squat-push up combo.
