Fort Sam's Own Performs Free Holiday Concert Saturday, Dec. 8

If you’re looking for something special to do this weekend, you can honor military service members at a special concert Saturday night.

Fort Sam’s Own, the official band of U.S. Army North, will perform a holiday celebration free of charge to residents and visitors.

They’ll play a list of multi-cultural songs including: "Home for Christmas," "Christmas Eve at Sarajevo," "O Hanukah," and "Los Peces en el Rio."

The concert is Saturday evening at 7 at the Scottish Rite Auditorium on Avenue E, and everyone gets in free.

New High-Ranking NCO Named At Fort Sam Houston

On Wednesday, Command Sgt. Maj. Hu Rhodes was welcomed as the new high-ranking Non-commissioned Officer at Fort Sam.

"I joined the army from here," said Rhodes. "I graduated from McArthur High School in 1971 and this is still listed as my home of record."

Rhodes' most recent assignment was in Africa, where he served citizens in 54 countries.

Welcome Home Parade For Vietnam Veterans At Fort Sam Houston

Joint Base San Antonio is getting ready to honor America’s Vietnam veterans today; 3 million veterans are long overdue for a proper “welcome home.”

About 40 years ago, veterans who served in Vietnam came home in a trickle, wounded and suffering, but there was virtually no one there to greet them.

Members of all four branches of the U.S. military gathered on a Fort Sam Houston parade field Tuesday to rehearse and prepare for hundreds of guests to the 50th Anniversary Welcome Home Ceremony.

Navy Relocates Medicine Education and Training to JBSA-Fort Sam Houston

The Navy celebrated a milestone Friday when its point of accountability for all Navy Medicine training relocated to Fort Sam Houston from its former headquarters in Jacksonville, Fla..

The relocation stems from the Navy Surgeon General’s vision of streamlining Navy Medicine into a more efficient and responsive organization.

Initially, 12 military and civilian personnel will be assigned to N-METC’s new location. The opening of the facility comes a year after the Navy’s ‘A’ School, the Hospital Corps School, relocated to Fort Sam as part of the 2005 BRAC order.
