Court Martial Postponed While Defense Dept. Inspects Cell Phone Messages

An Air Force judge has postponed the sixth court martial in a series of cases against basic military training instructors at Joint Base San Antonio - Lackland.

The judge is allowing time for the Department of Defense to analyze cell phones messages between the Instructor and one of his trainees.

Staff Sgt. Craig LeBlanc is accused of crimes from aggravated sexual assault of two female trainees, to lying to military officials about his AWOL status after he was arrested in Comal County while he was partying with a trainee and didn’t make it back to the base.

Since all airmen must pass through training at Lackland to become full service members, the base is considered the "Gateway to the Air Force."

A delegation from the House Armed Services Committee visited San Antonio Tuesday. The group is touring the nation’s troubled basic training headquarters at Lackland Air Force Base.

The congressional delegation is meeting the new commanders in charge of Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland to learn how the sex scandal at the base began and how it was allowed to continue.

The headquarters to the 37th Training Wing at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland. The courts-martial are being held inside this building, where the base's legal offices and courtroom are housed.

Staff Sgt. Jason Manko is accused of violating Air Force regulations by developing a relationship with a female trainee. He came to court this morning prepared to enter a guilty plea on the charges against him.

Manko admitted to developing the relationship with a woman over a period of several months during the spring and summer of 2011, until he finally invited her to his home.

Gen. Edward Rice Meets With Congress to Discuss Lackland Scandal and Reform

Gen. Edward Rice, who leads the Air Education and Training Command in San Antonio, has met with select members of Congress in the ongoing sex scandal at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland.

Rice said unprofessional relationships at basic military training will not be tolerated.

Rice promised to establish and maintain an environment that he says is consistent with the high standards of professional conduct that the Air Force demands of instructors.
