Tonight, the U.S. Poet Laureate is the featured speaker at UTSA’s Creative Writing Series; Natasha Trethewey is expected to read from her Pulitzer Prize-winning poetry collection.

Trethewey was serving as the poet laureate for the State of Mississippi when she was selected as the 19th poet laureate of the United States in June. Her first poems, titled, “Domestic Work,” won the inaugural 1995 Cave Canem poetry prize. Her third collection, "Native Guard,” was awarded the 2007 Pulitzer Prize.

San Antonio Water System customers could be facing a rate increase of nearly 10 percent in 2013. An aging infrastructure is one reason, but another is pressure from the Environmental Protection Agency.

DNA testing that death row inmate Hank Skinner said would prove he is not a triple murderer is doing just the opposite.  On Wednesday, the Texas Attorney General’s Office filed papers that say the DNA incriminates Skinner. 

Skinner was convicted of killing his live-in girlfriend and her two adult children on New Year’s Eve in 1993.

But Skinner has insisted he’s innocent and the DNA  would clear him of the crimes. The DNA was not tested during his murder trial and Skinner has been fighting in the courts to get access to the evidence for testing.

On Wednesday, Air Force investigators announced the findings of their probe into cases of sexual assault by military training instructors at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland.

Since January 1, 2012, dozens of cases have been uncovered; five instructors have been convicted, one was punished for military violations, and General Edward Rice, Commander of the Air Education Training Command, said dozens of other charges are being considered.
